Property registration ordinance approved for mortgage-in-default property in Brookhaven, NY
Brookhaven, NY: An occupied and vacant property registration ordinance for mortgage-in-default property has been established to help fight blight.
Registration is due within 10 days of the date a mortgagee declares its mortgage on a parcel to be real property in default. Any changes to any information involved in registration are due within 10 days of the changes.
Registration must include: if property is vacant or occupied, names of and current contact information for the mortgagee and mortgage servicer, and payment of a semiannual fee (to be determined);
with re-registrations due within 10 days of expiration of previous semiannual registrations.
The ordinance will go into effect Jan. 1, 2020, with violation of or failure to adhere to any section of the ordinance subject to fines of $1,000 - $15,000.
