Allegheny County, PA, approves property ordinance fee to help fund costs to demolish vacant properties
Allegheny County, PA: County Council passed a property ordinance to help defray costs for demolition of blighted property.
The ordinance would require all owners of property seeking to file mortgage and deed in the County to pay a fee.
The fee would be $15 per instance of filing, and the funds from the fee would be used for demolition of vacant and abandoned property; in accordance with Pennsylvania Act 152-2016, which requires such funds from fees collected to be used exclusively for such demolition of blighted property.
The Council cited the existence of similar ordinances in surrounding counties, as cause for adopting and the likely positive assistance it would create for the County.
