Vacant property registration ordinance signed into effect for Timberville, VA

Timberville, VA: A vacant property registration ordinance for the Town has been signed into effect by Governor Ralph Northam.

The vacant building registration requires properties vacant for a continuous period of 12 months or more, and meeting the “derelict building” qualifications, with a possible fee of $100 due at time of registration.

Notification of a derelict building status will receive notification, and are required to have taken action within 90 days from time of notice.

Failure to register can result in a $200 civil fine, or $400 fine if the property is located in an area deemed “blighted”.

Registration and fees are due annually, for the duration of the vacancy and derelict status, as well as adherence to the rest of Town and State of Virginia Code.
