Experiment underway involving pictures of windows placed over boarded up windows on vacant buildings

Hennepin County, MN: Vacant buildings are part of an experiment in illusion, in order to fight blight.

Town leaders responded to community concern for increased security risks and potential property devaluing due to vacant structures by means of urban camouflage.

Windows that were previously boarded and secured with plywood now have vinyl sheets with the image of regular windows on them.

From the street, the vacant homes could be seen as occupied or at least in good repair, which in turn can help dissuade potential criminal activity regularly associated with boarded up buildings.

Additionally, the eyesore that often is brought on by boarded up homes is diminished and community rejuvenation is furthered.
